KENYAN GETAWAY – CIALA RESORT, KISUMU

No, we are not crazy! Travel to Kenya was a risk we were willing to take. The Covid situation is always fluid but we were fairly confident that we could follow protocols in order to protect ourselves and others around us.

Ciala Resort, Kisumu

Shortly after spending Christmas in Nairobi, we flew to Kisumu. We chose Ciala Resort because we wanted to combine our short break with a family event. The resort is a short taxi ride away from Kisumu airport. The reception building with it’s high roof and modern décor creates a great first impression. We embraced the relief from the heat of Kisumu and gratefully downed our welcome drinks even as we took in the lush green lawn.

Check in completed, the staff came to take our luggage and show us our rooms. This is why we love to holiday in Kenya! Spacious is the word I would use to describe our room. An extra large king size bed surrounded by a mosquito net canopy looked positively palatial. Even the extra bed they had brought in for our daughter did not make the room crowded. Actually even without the extra bed our huge bed could ​have easily accommodated all three of us. The room open out to an outdoor patio overlooking a lovely green garden.

My daughter enjoyed the outdoor pool but we all agreed that the pool chairs could be a bit more comfortable. Doesn’t everyone want a full reclining bed by the pool and not just a chair? The children’s playground was well equipped and the pony rides delighted guests both young and old. Unfortunately , we did not have enough time to indulge in the spa treatments. The sumptuous breakfast buffet was always a great way to start the day. I loved the local Kenyan specialties like boiled maize, sweet potatoes, Arrowroots and the tamarind juice was such a treat.

The staff in the restaurant were very helpful and professional. The high chairs for babies were not in great condition though . We managed to tear ourselves from the comfort of the resort to visit Kisumu City, Lake Victoria and the local fish market. We all enjoyed the hotel and it is unanimous that we want to stay there again in the future.
