“You may shoot me with your words. You may cut me with your eyes, you may kill me with your hatefulness. But still like air, I’ll rise.” ~ Maya Angelou
The Domestic Violence Sisterhood is an initiative within Kenyan Women in Germany e.V. umbrella organisation.
It is a secular and inclusive initiative that began in May 2019 and aims to meet the needs of Kenyan women when it comes to all aspects relating to domestic violence.
Our aims are to highlight and challenge all forms gender-related violence against Kenyan women, empower them to gain more control over their lives; live without fear of violence and assert their human rights to justice, equality and freedom.
KWIG Domestic Violence Sisterhood works in co-operation with local organisations and mainstream in offering support services to enable women and their children to escape violent relations and live in dignity.
Our sensitive and holistic support aims to help victims of abuse to escape from violence, cope with trauma and rebuild their lives. We believe that no-one should have to live in fear of violence and abuse. We listen, we support, we care.
Our initiviative offers and provides advice, advocacy and resources, counselling and self-help support services in English, Kiswahili and in our local ethnic languages from Kenya. Whilst our focus is on the needs of Kenyan women, we will not turn any woman away who needs emergency help.
